YoungShip visit to the Finnish Meteorological Institute

We were lucky to be invited to the Finnish Meteorological Institute by one of our newly joined members Elisa Lindgren.

The FMI building up on the hill in Kumpula was spectacular and the building must have more monitors than we had ever seen before in one office.

Elisa and her colleague Anni told us about their maritime sector at FMI, they produce ice charts daily with the help from satellite pictures as well as local observers testing the thickness of the ice.

We also got the opportunity to visit the different headquarters for the traffic modes: weather information for the media, flight weather and road weather. All stations are manned 24/7.

You can read more about FMI from the presentation Elisa and Anni held for us and at the end there are links to all the free services one can use.

Thanks a lot for the visit!
