The Nordic Offshore and Maritime Arbitration Association (NOMA) was established 28 November 2017 on the initiative of the Danish, Finnish, Norwegian and Swedish Maritime Law Associations. The Nordic countries have long traditions for settling disputes within the maritime- and offshore industry by arbitration. Traditionally, ad hoc arbitration has been dominant in the Nordics, particularly in Norway and Denmark, while Sweden and Finland have stronger traditions for institutional arbitration.

In a globalized field as the shipping- and offshore, the Nordic industry and the Nordic legal environment recognize that it will be useful to develop an even more common approach to Nordic arbitration. In this context, the Maritime Law Associations together with the industry has developed the Rules and Best Practice of the Nordic Offshore and Maritime Arbitration Association, in order to promote transparent and cost-efficient arbitrations.

The seminar is lead by Nora Gahmberg-Hisinger (Partner at HPP Attorneys Ltd) and Ulla von Weissenberg (Partner at Procopé & Hornborg Attorneys Ltd).

Ulla von Weissenberg advises on all aspects of international maritime and transport law and various insurance issues as well on wide range of issues relating to international trade – including extensive trade compliance and sanctions advice. She is also experienced in issues related to shipbuilding and ship purchases. Due to the long experience with insurance issues, clients also rely on Ulla’s advice on complicated “non-marine” insurance matters. Ulla frequently litigates before courts and arbitral tribunal, and is regularly involved in complex cross-border disputes.

Nora Gahmberg-Hisinger specializes in maritime and transport  law, international commercial law, insurance law and dispute resolution. Nora heads HPP’s market-leading logistics team comprising inter alia maritime, transport and insurance law with decades of experience from all kinds of matters within the shipping and transport industry. Before joining HPP Nora worked in Norway as a lawyer for the shipping company Teekay Petrojarl Production AS, which is a subsidiary of the Canadian Teekay Corporation. Previously Nora worked for a Finnish law firm specialized in maritime and transport law. Nora assists domestic and international insurance companies, shipping companies, forwarding agencies, their customers and national authorities.

A big thanks to HPP and Procopé & Hornborg for this event.
